The Obagi Blue Peel is a Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) skin peel and most suited to those who require a more dramatic improvement to their skin.
The acid is applied to the face to burn the outer layers of the skin, causing damage and letting the skin regenerate with a younger, tighter and healthier look and feel. It is often recommended to those who have severe sun damage and pigmentation.
Different acid strengths can be used depending on how aggressive you want the treatment to be and what speed of recovery you require.
The acid is colourless so a blue dye is added to the mixture. The dye is applied to the skin along with the TCA acid. As the blue dye start to develop, it provides an indicator as to the depth of the peel on the skin. Once the peel is removed a blue dye resolve remains on the skin but usually washes away during the 12 hours following the treatment.
Over the next week the skin will start regenerating. By week two the skin should start to look healthy and the full effects of the peel will be seen. At six weeks after the peel, the skin is noticeably fresher, clearer, tighter and healthier looking.
