Liposuction is a surgical fat removal procedure that improves the body’s shape and contour by removing excess fat from deposits located between the skin and muscle. It is for body shaping and body contouring. It is not a weight loss procedure. Liposuction is an excellent procedure for the removal of stubborn areas of fat that do not change with diet or exercise.
Liposuction under local anaesthetic
liposuction can be performed under local anaesthetic. This reduces the time you need to be with us and avoids recovery from a general anaesthetic and overnight hospital fees. Your treatment time will take approximately 4 hours from the moment you arrive with us.
What areas of the body can be treated with Liposuction?
You can have virtually any area of the body treated with liposuction. Some of the more popular areas are:
- Abdomen (love handles)
- Thighs (saddle bags)
- Chest (male breasts or moobs)
The system is designed for both fat removal for large volume areas or for very fine liposuction. Your procedure is tailored specifically for your individual needs.
Consultation for Liposuction
All patients must have a consultation prior to having liposuction. You will meet with your Consultant Surgeon to discuss what you are hoping to achieve from your surgery. There will be plenty of time for you to ask questions. You will be given a clear understanding of what can be achieved as it is important for you to have realistic expectations prior to your surgery.
After the initial consult you will receive a letter explaining everything that was discussed during your consultation. Subsequent appointments are available to you as it is inevitable there will questions that you have forgotten to ask. These appointments and your follow-up appointments post procedure are included as part of your original consultation fee.
What happens on the day of procedure?
We ask that you arrive shortly before your actual procedure. This ensures there is sufficient time to answer any last minute questions you may have and to go through the patient consent form with you.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic so you will be awake. Afterwards you will rest whilst having Hilotherapy (LINK) treatment. This cooling device reduces post-operative swelling and inflammation and can also assist with post procedure pain.
Although liposuction is a ‘walk in walk out’ procedure, we do recommend that you get someone to pick you up or you take a taxi home.
Is there any post-care associated with liposuction?
Some patients are given a pressure garment to wear and will need to use this for 6 weeks following the procedure. Whether you need a garment depends on what area you have had treated.
You will be given pain killers and antibiotics to take home together with a massage roller. Using this each day will gently ease the swelling in the soft tissues. To get the best results, it is important to use this regularly in conjunction with the pressure garment.
You will meet with your Consultant Surgeon 2 weeks after your surgery and then 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months on from there. Patients are given an emergency out-of-hours number so we can be contacted if there are any concerns or questions in between these appointment times.
Our Consultant Surgeons are happy to see patients on a yearly basis for up to 5 years post procedure so patients are assured they will receive a consistent level of personalised care from us.
Will the fat cells grow back after treatment?
Liposuction removes fat cells permanently. The fat cells that are removed can never come back. However, the fat cells that remain will still gain some weight in the appropriate manner if you put on weight after your surgery. Weight gain tends to be more balanced however as the majority of the stubborn storage area fat cells have been removed.
How much does Liposuction cost?
The cost of your liposuction procedure will depend on the size of the area being treated but prices start from around £2,500.
What is High Definition Liposuction?
High Definition Liposuction or Hi Def Lipo is about removing specific areas of fat from the torso and limbs to produce the ultimate in muscular definition. It works alongside your natural muscle shape and your treatment is tailored specifically for you and your shape. It goes beyond normal liposuction as it uses the Body-Jet water technology to precisely shape small areas.
The procedure requires care and precision as its main aim is to accentuate muscle shape.
Hi Def Lipo is not a substitute for going to the gym or undertaking exercise. The procedure works in harmony with your lifestyle and enhances the results of these activities.
The best results are achieved when a combination of activities are undertaken simultaneously. We would suggestedhealthy eating, a dedicated exercise program and Hi Def Lipo are used together.
Liposuction and fat transfer
Unlike normal liposuction, fat removed using the Body-Jet technique contains a large amount of viable fat cells (adipocytes). These can be used to transfer fat from one part of the body to another. For example, to the face, hands and breasts. This procedure is known as fat transfer.
One of the most amazing benefits of the Body-Jet liposuction system is the high degree of cell survival compared to other techniques that are available. As a result of the water jets being used to displace fat from the connective tissue, reduced trauma is suffered by the tissue. This means that you can expect to keep more of the volume that is seen immediately after a fat transfer (fat grafting) procedure.
Additionally, fat harvested using the Body-Jet system has very high levels of stem cells present. This offers the potential for the transferred fat to be regenerative as well as volume enhancing.
The stem cells that are harvested from the fat can be used aesthetically for skin rejuvenation and fine lines and wrinkles can be filled using this technique.
